Book sales really do matter
Most authors I speak to don’t care too much about making money from their books. Sure, it would be nice. And covering costs is preferable so they can afford to do it all again. But they are not motivated by money. Perhaps you can relate?

- Sales tell you that your books are reaching readers, which is the whole idea, right?
- Sales prove to friends and family that writing is worth your time and effort.
- Sales mean that you can start to believe in your own abilities as an author. And maybe even, one day, have the confidence to quit your day job…
The one metric that matters
Forget Likes on Facebook or a new TikTok follower, book sales are the bottom line that tell you if you’re doing book marketing right.
And of course, without book sales it’s difficult to get reviews, which are the next best indicator that you are writing great books.
