Book marketing really matters and can make the difference between a successful title and one that’s invisible. I’m always fascinated to learn how various channels work and what gets results. Where other people are overwhelmed by marketing, I’m fascinated to know how to make it work for me and for my clients.
One of the biggest reasons why authors struggle with marketing is because they focus on pushing their book out to anyone and everyone.
But everyone is not your reader.
I have developed a different approach, which is where we focus on discovering your perfect target readerso that you can be more effective and efficient with your marketing.

In this step, you’re going to learn the biggest mistakes most authors make with book marketing and how you can avoid them, so you can sell more books more quickly and with less time spent on marketing ‘busywork’.
You know your book is great, but how do you convince everyone else? We’re going to start by looking objectively at your book - what’s special about it, what sets it apart from the competition? By doing this you will begin to see exactly who your book will appeal to, which is the most crucial step in your marketing. You will learn that you don’t need to ‘convince everyone’, you just need to present it as the perfect title to those you already know will love it. No hard selling required!
When you know who your book appeals to, you can begin to search out these individuals. Together we’ll find out where your readers hang out and how you can reach them, so you can get in front of them to tell them about your book.
Having done a good amount of work on finding out who and where your readers are, it’s time to get very specific. I’m going to show you how to develop an ideal reader avatar that you can keep in mind every time you need to speak to your readers, whether that be in an Amazon description, email newsletter or Tweet. Crafting marketing messages will never have been easier and focusing on your avatar will ensure you are speaking directly to the hearts and minds of those readers you know will want your book.
Now we’re really getting to know your readers, we can plan your marketing. If you’ve been wandering aimlessly until now, not knowing what to focus on, we’re going to fix that here. By the end of this step you will know the best way to reach your perfect target readers, which promotions will work and which won’t and how to address any concerns readers may have about buying your book. You will save time by developing a strategy to reach readers and you’ll save money, as you’ll no longer need to sink it into disappointing advertising and promotions. Instead, you can relax and spend more time writing.
It’s finally time to explore marketing tactics. This is where most authors jump in and immediately start to drown. But all the work you have put in so far means you will know how to swim like a pro. In this step, you will choose the right marketing tools for you and learn how to use them effectively. Plus, you will understand how each tool will impact on your author business, so you can improve both your book exposure and your sales without spending all day online.
In this final step, you will learn how to measure what is working and what isn’t and discover three advanced strategies you can use to get to know your readers even better as your following grows. This will enable you to develop and refine your reader avatar over time, which will ensure your book marketing continues to go from strength to strength.
